In response to weak export sales impacted by the high Australian dollar, the auto maker Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) is planning to cut 350 jobs at its Altona plant in Melbourne.

Many of the workers were shocked by the action and a reported 80 per cent of them plan to appeal their redundancies at Fair Work Australia.

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) spokeswoman Beck Angel said “the union had agreed to the criteria, which covered the areas of workplace behaviour, skills and knowledge. All of Toyota’s 3350 manufacturing staff ranked according to their performance in order to cut one tenth of the workforce.”

Toyota Motor Company (NYSE:TM) shares are currently standing at 81.42.
