Scots Fear Offshore Cfd Wash-out - Offshore Wind Renews - Renewable Energy News

Scottish National Party spokesman on energy and climate change Mike Weir told today's Energy, Environment and Transport Forum at Westminster that it is "highly unlikely" a Scottish offshore project will be chosen. He said: "The capacity up for grabs in this first round of CfD allocation is significantly less than the industry expected." There are two projects sited off Weirs Angus constituency totalling more than 1GW, both of which are bidding in the first round. "It's clear these both will not be granted resource a CfD. There is no guarantee, and it is highly unlikely, that a Scottish application will be chosen." He called this "a dilemma" and said he has raised the issue with the Secretary of State. http://www.jns.org/news-briefs/2015/2/24/bank-of-israel-sets-interest-rate-at-all-time-low Weir added: "Many developers are now looking at their offshore wind projects and looking at whether they want to put these projects forward to spend more money when there is no certainty for the future." Scottish energy minister Fergus Ewing previously expressed optimism that a Scottish project would make the cut under the CfD offshore pot, which is expected to total 900MW. http://renews.biz/84638/scotland-uneasy-on-cfds-outcome/
